Welcome to week ten of our term two

We had been talking about termites one day in class and Bowon had some reading material about termites he wanted to share with the class. Thanks for sharing Bowon! 







Maths
We are revising our knowledge of time over the next two weeks. We will be reminding ourselves about what to say when the minutes hand points at the 12, 3, 6 and 9.
Some of us need to remember how a clock face looks.











English
We were thinking about how to begin writing a story this week. We will be continuing this work next week, so that we are able to write some sentences to write a story.
We are practicing our spelling and reading skills throughout the week also.

Our children really enjoy swimming lessons with Mr. Xavi.









Practicing our Speech
We worked hard all week on preparing for our assembly. 
We wrote our own speeches with Mr. Johns help.




Then we went to the auditorium to practice talking with the microphones.



 Our Assembly
Our Internationalism assembly was an awesome success. The children who visited each station were extremely interested in the videos we shared. The children in year 1/2 enjoyed presenting the videos and singing the songs. It was also great to welcome parents back into the school buildings.





















UOI
Different Surfaces
We have been learning about friction and so today we decided to test out the frictional properties of various surfaces. We had to make sure that we conducted a fair test by each group using the same materials and operating the cars in the same way.

Introduction to the PYP at UDIS 
 Monday 22 March at 3pm!

We invite all parents to attend a session to learn more about the Primary Years Programme at UDIS. Please join us at 3pm for a presentation with Ms. Emmi, our Deputy Principal. This will be held in the school’s auditorium, cover will be arranged to look after children for any parents attending the event.

 Welcome to week 1/2's blog spot for year 1/2 First up is a celebration of students doing their work and being awarded certificates for those efforts. Tone. Bowon and Euro were awarded Study Ladder certificates this week for their work about subtraction.  Well done boys!!! The Big Pencil Award A new idea is the awarding of the BIG PENCIL  At the end of the day the student, who the other class members think has tried their best throughout the learning day, will be given this award to take home and return he next day. Week 2 2020 Team work

 TEAM WORK This week and next week we are focusing on how a great team works together. Such as how we can do things to help each other and what a great team says to each other in ways of encouragement.  Last week we tried to build tall towers. This week our tall towers were built after we had our chat about what makes a team.  I am happy to tell you that we have started to help each other and work together and talk positively together. Maths   We are learning about tens and ones and what each digit means in a number. Miss Emmi's group are also investigating digits and what they mean when we see them.  English We are starting to experiment with letter names and sounds. We are starting to find ways with computers to learn our letter names and sounds. We tried doing our first writing of the year which I can use to compare how much they have improved by the end of the school year.  U.O.I. We are now aware of the reasons we try to eat healthy food....

Welcome Back to Week 10

  Welcome back ..... ........to the second half of first term. We hope you had a relaxing break and are recharged for the path to Christmas.  Please can you support your children with reading at home.  The more they read the stronger they will become.  Here at school we will endeavor to change their book when we feel they are ready to move on to  new book. Here are some works we are proud of from last term. Swimming Mr. Dave's Jellyfish Temperature Check Each day at lunchtime we check the children's temperature and get them to wash their hands as part of our covid 19 school policy.  Here are some images of that happening.  "Happy Birthday!" (ask your child what this means!) English "Reading Eggs" is helping our students to improve their reading and phonics knowledge.  As well as this, the children read to an adult at least three times a week.
