WEEK3

Week three has been and gone!
Things are slowly returning to normal at school, which is great. Lunch with added safety rules in the canteen again is happening. However we are still playing in our bubbles for the movement.

Living Things and Non-Living Things

This week in science we were investigating what made something living and what made some non living. We discussed what we thought, watched videos, talked more, went outside to explore our environment lokking for living and non living things and then we made a chart showing our findings about the topic.

Maths
We had some addition and multiplication fun this week. The multiplication challenges, asked us to try to find answers by counting in 2s, 5's, and 10's, while our addition challenge came in the form of number bingo. There were both a lot of fun. Next week we will be investigating how we can add "number bonds to 20" to make our addition skills, quicker.

Performing Art
We had fun learning songs and signing them at the same time.
"It was just like learning another language!!!"

English
Our theme for these two weeks is "Super Heroes" We are thinking about words and grammar we need to use when writing questions. we are reading stories and answering questions about different super heroes. Next week we will be writing our own super hero stories and creating our own super heroes next week.

UOI Social Studies

We watched videos about other schools in a different countries and we drew what we are thankful for at our school. The children discovered that not every child's life is like the life they have.

Christmas Past

Congratulations to Pinjia who won a prize from the Christmas game with Mr. John E.
Kindly, without being prompted Pinjia shared her prizes with the whole class. You are very thoughtful, Pinjia

English
We are trying to share with our friends what we do in our different English groups each day.

TEAMWORK
We are trying extremely hard to learn and remember what we need to do to work as part of a team.

Global School Play Day

On Wednesday 3rd February 2021, UDIS will be participating in the seventh annual Global School Play Day for students in schools around the world. This year our theme will simply be           ‘A day of unstructured play’.

Why?

In his TEDx lecture, Peter Gray, clearly argues the case that today's kids do not grow up playing and this has negatively impacted them in many ways. It's time we return the gift of play to this generation.

Our Play

On the morning of Wednesday 3rd February students can bring along any toy, board game or a puzzle to school. Toys and games can NOT require batteries or electricity to work. Students can bring along their own toys and each class will set out toys and games as well. Please label each of your toys.  No gun-related toys.

Some suggestions include:

  • A favourite stuffed animal

  • Lego and/or blocks

  • Dolls

  • Action figures

  • Cards

  • Toy cars

Because of COVID restrictions this event needs to be held in class. All students will stay in their ‘bubbles’ within their own classes or in zones outside. No students will be able to visit any other classes. However, there is still a great opportunity for the students to play with their classmates and engage in unstructured play.

“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.” Plato
