WEEK NINE

Improvement

Welcome to the  last blog of this half term. I am impressed by the development of our class. The children arrived in mid August and have developed their learning habits,  maturity and listening skills.  They are developing and progressing with their maths and English skills. In particular their reading skills are starting to take off. Please keep up their reading skills  through the break. Use Reading Eggs and Study Ladder. Next half term I will introduce a reading specific app which will help to support their reading.

Maths
We went 3D shape hunting this week. We were able to identify many 3D shapes around the school and we will build some sculptures with the shapes when we come back after the break.

3D Shapes

We were also able to describe the 3D shapes using the words; faces, corners and edges.

Ms Emmi's Group
We inquired into how multiplication works, to make adding numbers  quickly. We also tried to share groups of items into smaller groups to help investigate division problems.

UOI
We looked at many different items and had to decide about, "Were the items invented before we were born or after we were born?" Some of the items the children had trouble identifying.
"What's an iPod?" some asked.

Maths
We have started to learn the mechanics and meaning of multiplication.

Science
My Helicopter was an investigation an simulation into how scientists work. It was important that the class realized that each explement had to be made fair.
We enjoyed creating and flying our helicopters. congratulations to harry who was able to invent the helicopter that stayed in the air the longest.

Reading

We had been finding out about speech marks when the children read to me. This week we investigated where these marks are in different stories and what we should do if we are reading a story aloud when we see them. It was very pleasing to hear the children try to use expression and change their voice when they read out loud.
we also had a look at how we make speech happen in cartoon stories.

Maths
We have started to discover how multiplication works. This will continue when we return. the children have made a solid start in their understanding of this concept.

Counting in 2s
We started to memorize how counting in 2s works. This will be useful when we revisit multilocation next half term.

Slideshow
Our computer skills are continually improving. we are discovering different parts of the slide show program are used to make our work present well.

Reading and Reading Eggs
As much as is possible the children have a chance each day to read one on one with me. It has been impressive to witness the development of these young readers.
