Week 6's goings on.

YEAR 1/2

Welcome to the end of week six. We thought you might like to see how well the children sing the Thai national anthem in the mornings.

PSPE

This we week we investigated our own personal identity. It was interesting to find out what our names meant and which countries they came from.

English

We are developing our writing skills. This week we have learned about where we use capital letters and full stops. We also found out that if we use adjectives our stories become very interesting for others to read. Next week we will try to add a "middle" to our story.

We are working hard at improving our reading skills. Please encourage your children to read each night to you. Some of them have a small pack of sight words that they need to memorize. When the children show they are able to read and understand what they have read, then we will give a new book to read.

Handwriting practice is continuing and our biggest need is to try to make our letters "sit" on the lines. Next week we will be practicing the letters "u" and "t"

Maths

We have been finding out how to use a number line to help discover the answers to both addition and subtraction problems. This is tricky because first we need to understand what direction left and right are!

Next week we will try to use counters to id us in the solving of similar simple problems.

Ms Emmi's  Group
Our week was so full we ran out of time to focus on subtraction which is something we will beginning next week. This week was all about addition. We were learning new vocabulary for addition such as add, altogether, plus and inverse operation. We practiced different strategies on how to add quickly based on number bonds and played lots of games to help practice quick recall of addition facts.

Can't wait until next week to continue on with subtraction and building on our strong foundation of place values.

Making Poster about what we have learned

We were sharing our knowledge, of what we felt, were the most important parts of the unit of inquiry, through making a poster and choosing an appropriate title for this work.

Flipgrid
The children were able to verbally communicate their ideas and understandings about our unit of investigation by using the "flipgrid" app. Then their friends were able to comment via video about the presentations. The class are really moving forward with their IT skills. It is great to see this each day.

Maths  Activities and Prodigy
The children are being challenged by online tasks to show the learning that we complete during the week. The learners can also choose to use these programs at home.

Library
Mr dave had the students all looking for tigers this week.
