Week 3

WEEK 3

Welcome to week three of the school year. Year 3 and up at the school, will start swimming lessons next week. Year 1/2 will begin the week after.

If the weather is bad or it is cold, Mr Xavi will decide closer to the time whether or not the children will go swimming or have a normal P.E. lesson.

So they will have to come with their swimming clothes each Wednesday.

BUT NOT NEXT WEEK!!!

PSPE

Here was our provocation this week about sharing, manners, being positive and working as a team.

We have created a set of agreements that the students decided we should try to achieve in our class.

MATHS
This week we used computers to try to understand the role of each digit in a number. So the number 47 means that there are 4 tens and 7 ones in that number. this will be important to remember when we start to add and subtract numbers.

We started using a computer program called "Prodigy" which will help us to learn more about the maths we are doing in class.

We also began investigating the properties of two  dimensional shapes.

Next week we will start to learn the names of the parts of shapes such as sides vertices edges corners and faces. as we continue leaning about shapes.

Ms. Emmi's Maths group started with the week by continuing to learn more about place value by examining numbers in their common form 246 or 3,089 and expanding them to have a better understanding of how important place value is for amounts such as 200+40+6 or 3,000+80+9.

By the end of the week, learners investigated shapes for what they have in common and what is different from each other. We have also spent time working on vocabulary associated with 2D and 3D shapes such as vertex, face and symmetry.

Next week, we will continue with 2D and 3D shapes by venturing into the properties that shapes have such as: how many vertices does a cube have or what shape has 8 sides?

ENGLISH

We started to learn about how to remember the way words are spelt. the way we will do this is called

"LOOK , SAY, COVER, WRITE, CHECK"

We have begun using a program called "Reading Eggs"

which will help us to improve our phonics and reading knowledge.

Next week we will begin finding out about how a story is written and learn how to write the beginning of a story.

Unit Of Inquiry (U.O.I.)

We learned that we need to eat healthily and exercise.

This week we thought about the need for sitting still and resting or meditating to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

We tried some meditation exercises.

We talked about the importance of being clean and what steps we should take to make sure we are clean every day.

Next week we will learn computer words and skills so that we can begin searching for pictures on the internet.

Here are other photos from this weeks activities and events.
